The election has become wide open after incumbent Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that she would not be running for a second term as mayor of Atlanta. It should be remembered that Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was backed by current US President Joe Biden.
After Keisha Lance Bottoms’ decision was made public, the race for the election of the new mayor gathered pace. The mayor of the city of Atlanta is elected by a non-partisan general primary followed by a general election. The current mayor of Atlanta is a Democratic mayor. Although the election is non-partisan, most office holders are affiliated with a respective political party.

The latest 2021 Atlanta mayoral election opinion polls predict a victory for former Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed. However, the poll predicts that none of the candidates will win a majority in the November 2 election.
According to surveys published by Survey USA, Kasim Reed could get 17% of the vote in the next Atlanta municipal election. Felicia Moore can poll 10% of the vote while Sharon Gay can get 5% of the vote. Polls show that 39% of voters are undecided.
Another survey commissioned by Lester & Associates predicted 18% support for Andre Dickens and Kasim Reed and Antonio Brown getting 13% of the vote. Polls show 36% of voters are undecided.

Atlanta mayoral race 2021 polls: what happened in the last election?
Atlanta’s 2017 mayoral election took place on November 7. The outgoing mayor, Kasim Reed, was not eligible for the post due to the term limit. For the November 7 election, a total of 14 candidates qualified but none of the candidates obtained a majority.
A second round took place on December 5 between Keisha Lance Bottoms and Mary Norwood. An unofficial result was declared on December 5 with Keisha Lance Bottoms as the winner, but Mary Norwood has called for a recount. On December 17, 2017, Keisha Lance Bottoms was officially certified as the winner and Mary Norwood conceded defeat.

Felicia Moore is president of the Atlanta City Council. She represented a district in northwest Atlanta on council for 20 years before being elected head of the city’s legislature in 2017.
Sharon Gay is a local lawyer and senior public policy advisor for Dentons. Gay also served as vice president of government affairs for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
Born in Philadelphia, Rachele Fruit is a Communist activist and Socialist Party workers’ candidate.
Antonio Brown is on Atlanta City Council. He represents the District of Westside. Brown advocated for progressive policies during his tenure on the board.
Andre Dickens currently holds the city-wide position on City Council. He first won the position in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017. He is also Director of Development for TechBridge.
